Psychology For Kids: 40 Fun Tests That Help You Learn About Yourself

By Jonni Kincher

Psychology for Kids II: 40 Fun Experiments That Help You Learn About Others

By Jonni Kincher

The first of the two is an excellent resource book for helping children to investigate their own attitudes and thinking, social, learning, and creative styles.  The second promotes a quasi-scientific approach to learning about experiments as well as the attitudes and perceptions of other people; this volume allows the child to explore opinions and judgments, gender differences, and group behavior.  Both books are easily modified for younger students, or the child can read and explore on their own.  I’ve found them to be very useful in group situations, particularly relating to promoting tolerance and motivating children to think outside their own experience.

Jump Starters: Quick Classroom Activities That Develop Self-Esteem, Creativity, and Cooperation

By Linda Nason McElherne

This book is filled with thematic activities that work wonderfully in a continuing group context.  The topics are well-suited to students in the upper Elementary years, and the book includes reproducible materials.

Put Your Mother On The Ceiling: Children’s Imagination Games

By Richard de Mille

A good alternative to some of your “tired” imagery activities, this book provides scenarios relating to many social situations and relationships children experience: games and parties, home and family, school and expressive scenarios.

104 Activities That Build: Self-Esteem, Teamwork, Communication, Anger Management, Self-Discovery, and Coping Skills

By Alanna Jones

This book offers activities designed for groups of at least 2 members, with objectives and target populations listed for each ask.  The discussion questions following each activity are generally comprehensive, and variations are often included for replicating favorite activities or specializing to your group.
