About Me...
Cyndi Young received her Educational Specialist degree in
School Psychology from James Madison University in 1992. She worked for Roanoke
City Public Schools from 1990 through 1999. After earning credentials for
private practice as a Licensed School Psychologist through the Virginia Board of
Psychology, she moved to Richmond. She maintained her assessment and
consultation skills while developing her training in neurofeedback techniques
within two private clinical practices.
In 2001, Cyndi formed Young Consulting, LLC where she is
able to provide individualized consultation and assessment services for
children, parents and schools throughout the Richmond area.
Cyndi began working with national test publishers in the
spring of 1999 and has participated in the standardization of the latest
revisions of the Stanford-Binet and Wechsler scales as well as various other
individual tests. She has also worked as a counselor for local therapeutic
camps addressing children’s learning styles awareness and organizational skills
development.
Cyndi has
been active in the leadership of both the Virginia Academy of School
Psychologists and the Virginia Psychological Association over the last ten
years. She has served on various committees, including Ethics, Membership, and
Convention planning. She enjoys working with other state leaders to maintain
the integrity and vitality of School Psychology as a profession that directly
impacts the lives of students and families within our community.
Cyndi Young was named the
2002 School Psychologist of the Year, the Best Practices Award of the Virginia
Academy of School Psychologists, because of her leadership within the field of
school psychology in both public and private settings.
My Philosophy
My
philosophy is based on a belief in the unlimited potential of children and the
power that parents and educators have to enhance children's development. This
dynamic time in the field of educational psychology allows parents and other
concerned professionals tremendous opportunities to promote children’s
individual development.
The
traditional role of the School Psychologist as a diagnostician is evolving into
a more outcomes-focused approach that emphasizes the child's ability to solve
problems and the educator's ability to individualize educational services. My
primary goals are to serve as an investigator of individual skill profiles and
as a facilitator of educational and developmental opportunities geared toward
enhancing the child’s current skills and future functioning. I attempt to
integrate each child's learning and developmental issues with the identified
resources and strategies necessary to address them.
This site was created with this philosophy in mind. It is our hope that
professionals and parents can use these tools to link information and resources
in order to access services within their schools and communities. We hope that
you find this forum helpful in supporting your children and welcome your
participation. Please contact us with questions or comments at
